About me

About me

Hi, I'm Anne Damrau, a musician and music therapist based in Berlin. Music has been a central part of my life for as long as I can remember. I play a wide range of instruments and have decades of experience performing in bands across a variety of genres – some of it even as a full-time musician. This diverse background gives me a deep understanding of group dynamics, both musically and interpersonally.

Eventually, I combined my passion for music with formal training in music therapy, completing my degree in 2021. For my thesis, I developed a unique concept for band counseling, which I've since put into practice. The results have shown me just how powerful music therapy can be in supporting bands and music groups.

What sets me apart is my intuition and my ability to quickly establish genuine connections with people. I understand how important it is for a group to grow together, to overcome challenges or conflicts, and to unlock their creative potential.

In my work, I create a space where music isn't just a form of expression but also a tool for resolving conflicts and strengthening communication. For bands and music groups, this means discovering new ways to collaborate and thrive – both musically and personally.

What do I offer?

A band is more than just a group of musicians. It's a dynamic relationship, complete with its highs and lows, creative flow, and, at times, conflicts. My systemic music therapeutic band counseling is designed to help bands navigate these challenges. The approach integrates the tools of systemic therapy with the unique communication resource every band already possesses: their music.

What makes this approach unique?
While systemic therapy is a well-established method for addressing communication issues and relationship dynamics, my approach stands out by incorporating the music the band already creates. By analyzing musical processes and using them as a resource, we can uncover new strategies that aren't limited to musical collaboration but extend into non-musical contexts.

This process is not only effective but also engaging, as music often communicates what words cannot. Additionally, systemic work doesn't always have to be overly serious – it can be creative, interactive, and even fun.
What to expect in a session?
The process begins with an initial consultation to understand the band's current situation. Whether the goal is resolving conflicts or proactively preparing for a tour, the sessions are tailored to the band's needs.

An initial session lasts up to four hours with breaks in between to ensure the group can work effectively. I recommend at least one follow-up session for reflection and reinforcement. Additional sessions can be arranged, with flexible durations based on the band's specific goals.
Where does the counseling take place?
Typically, I travel to where the band is and we'll work either in their rehearsal space or another suitable room large enough for the work. If the band prefers to come to Berlin, we can arrange to meet at a space here.
Why systemic band counseling?
Music as a key: The band’s music is actively integrated into the process and used as a means of communication.

Resource-oriented: We work with what is already there and develop new perspectives and solutions from it.

Systemic methods: Using proven techniques from systemic therapy, we explore dynamics, identify patterns and create space for change.

It doesn’t always have to be dead serious: Systemic work can be engaging, creative and sometimes surprisingly funny.
Goals of the counseling
The primary goal is to help the band work better together, whether they're addressing specific issues or looking to improve their collaboration proactively. By discovering new perspectives, band members can develop sustainable solutions for their challenges and create an environment where everyone feels supported.
How to book
Pricing depends on the number and length of sessions, which are tailored after the initial consultation.
